Planning meetings, Rep. Watt, bluegrass and bikinis

Supporters and opponents of new boating restrictions on Lake Davidson are expected to be at Town Hall Tuesday morning for meeting of the Davidson-Mooresville working committee studying the lake. Meanwhile, a public planning workshop is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday for an expansion of Hopewell Baptist Church and U.S. Rep. Mel Watt visits Thursday for a Town Meeting on housing issues. On the lighter side: We’ll also have a visit and video shoot by Hollywood director interested in Davidson’s Bikini Team. And set aside time Saturday for a visit to the Farmer’s Market downtown and another “Bluegrass Saturday” concert at Cornelius Presbyterian Church, this week with local bluegrass band Prograssive Y’allternative.

TUESDAY, AUG. 5, 9 a.m., Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Lake Davidson Working Commitee meets to discuss issues related to the future of Lake Davidson and format for a public hearing on Sept. 5. See our July 25 backgrounder, “Towns working on shared vision for Lake Davidson.”

TUESDAY, AUG. 5, 6 p.m., Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Reception in honor of Hollywood producer Rob Thomas, who is in town to shoot a “proof of concept” video for a possible TV sitcom based on the Davidson Bikini Team, four local women who wrote the book “Bikini Is a State of Mind.” With proclamation by Mayor John Woods. WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY, AUG 6-7, Hopewell Baptist Church fellowship hall, 18841 Davidson-Concord Road – Two-day public workshop to begin planning for development of a new Family Life Center at Hopewell Baptist Church, Davidson-Concord Road. Aug. 6, 5-6 p.m., site visit, 7:30 p.m., kickoff meeting. Aug. 7, 1-5 p.m., design workshop, 7 p.m., pin-up session and public discussion of site plan ideas.
