The dog days of summer may be making you sweat, but don’t let that keep you from enjoying all the cool things to do in Davidson this weekend.
Music lovers can choose among the Jerry Garcia tribute concert Saturday evening at Summit, the bluegrass Saturday afternoon in Cornelius, or the big band sound of the StarDusters at the next Concert on the Green Sunday. If you’re a teen/tween into vampires, don’t miss the “Breaking Dawn” book release party at the library Friday. If you need a good laugh, head to the college’s Belk Theater for the final weekend of “Lend me a Tenor.” And if you’re bored with your cooking, there will be a chef demo at the farmer’s market Saturday morning.
Weekend of July 31- Aug. 3
Live music this weekend at Summit Coffee includes the Wink Keziah Duo Thursday, a special Jerry Garcia Tribute Friday (and just think, you could ask for Cherry Garcia ice cream next door at Ben & Jerry’s!), and Russell Howard Saturday. Musicians play from 8-11 p.m. on the back veranda, with the upstairs used for rain dates.
Min Street Books will hold its story hour for the five and under crowd Friday starting at 10 a.m. There’s no charge. The store is located at 126 South Main Street, and can be reached at 704-892-6841.

Saturday morning at 9 a.m., adult and children’s services will be followed by a Kiddush luncheon. An adult education class will begin at 8 p.m.
Have a teenage/tween-age girl torn between Edward the vegetarian vampire or Jacob the werewolf? If you understood that sentence, then you should be planning on heading to the Davidson public library branch for the “Twilight” series release party for “Breaking Dawn.” The evening will begin at 9 p.m. with screening of “Buffy the Vampire” movies. The book will be available at midnight, with a few library books and also volumes for purchase. Twilight fans should bring a sleeping bag and can spend the night at the library, with adult supervision provided. Readers can be picked up between 7-8 a.m. Saturday morning. For more information, call the library at 704-892-8557.
The new Davidson Farmers Market will continue Saturday, 8 a.m. – noon, offering shoppers fresh local produce and meats, baked items, flowers and more.
