A motorcyclist remained in a Charlotte hospital Thursday after he was seriously injured in a high-speed collision with a car on East Rocky River Road Wednesday afternoon.
Carroll Blackburn, 36, of Lexington, was traveling east on a curved section of East Rocky River around 2:15 p.m. when his motorcycle crossed the center line, according to a Davidson Police report. It struck a westbound car driven by Lydia Dayton of Davidson. She swerved but was unable to avoid a collision. She and a younger female passenger were wearing seatbelts and were unhurt.
Mr. Blackburn was wearing a helmet when he was thrown from the cycle. He may have been traveling as fast as 80 miles per hour before the crash, according to the police report. The speed limit in the area is 45.
He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Davidson Police said Mr. Blackburn was still in the hospital this morning. His condition was unknown.
