The deadline is Aug. 31 for nominations for the town’s G. Jackson Burney Service Award, which annually honors residents for unselfish community service. Mr. Burney was a longtime Davidson whose contributions, particularly in communications and growth management helped shape the town’s character.
Previous winners include Bernice Houston, Bill Mayhew, John and Baxter Fisher, Evelyn Carr and Annie Mildred Lowery, and Scotty Nichols. (See our Nov. 21, 2008, report, “Town honors Nicholls for service.”)
Nominees do not need to be Davidson residents, but must have made a contribution to improve the quality of life in Davidson.
Nominations are due Aug. 31 and may be submitted online or in person at Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. The award will be presented at Town Hall in November.
To apply online, fill out the form on the town website.
