Music, theater, Team USA baseball and a beer-tasting

Summer is in full-swing, and what better way to spend a Saturday evening than with a benefit beer tasting and live music at Summit Coffee? On Sunday morning,
you can join a benefit bicycle ride to raise money for Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong foundation, and support local cyclist Skip Sullivan. Also, don’t miss the Sunday evening Concert on the Green, this week featuring the R&B sounds of Rough Draft. There’s also an international baseball game tonight in Kannapolis, featuring a team from Taiwan against TEAM USA, whose coaching staff includes Davidson College baseball coach Dick Cooke.

THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 7:05 p.m., Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, Kannapolis – Team USA baseball vs. Chinese Taipei. This is an exhibition game as the US Olympic baseball team readies for the summer Olympic Games in Beijing. The Team USA coaching staff includes Davidson College coach Dick Cooke.
THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 8-11 p.m., Summit Coffee, 128 S. Main St. – Live music with Billy Jones and The Pocket.
FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 8-11 p.m., Summit Coffee, 128 S. Main St. – Live music with Volatile Baby.
SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Fisher Farm Park, off Shearer Road – The Cycle Path, South Park Cycles and Davidson Parks & Recreation are co-hosting an MTB bicycle demo. Check out the newest offerings from manufacturers Kana and Specialized. Free.
SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 8 a.m. to noon, next to Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – weekly Davidson Farmers Market, with fresh produce, meats, flowers and other items from local farmers and vendors. Also: there’s an open music jam session – bring your instruments. And this week’s cooking demonstration is by Chef Maria of the Art Institute. Details: www.davidsonfarmersmarket.org
SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 8-11 p.m., Summit Coffee, 128 S. Main St. – Live music with the Rick Spreitzer Trio. Also, Summit is hosting a beer tasting event, $10 per person with limited tickets available. Admission buys you eight 3-oz. samples of microbrews from around the world. Hosted by “renowned brewer” Brett Hecker.
SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 6 p.m., Bailey Road Park, off Hwy. 115, Cornelius – Charlotte Symphony Orchestra pops concert under the starts. Pre-concert activities include the Great Fetuccini and face painting (6-8 p.m.). Calvin Edwards Trio plays at 7. At 8:15, the Charlotte Symphony plays. Free and open to the public. SUNDAY, JUNE 29, 9 a.m., Summit Coffee, 128 S. Main St. – Benefit 30-mile bike ride organized by friends of Skip Sullivan, to support him as he prepares for cancer surgery and to raise money for cyclist Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong cancer foundation. Stonewall St., Charlotte – “The Scene,” by Theresa Rebeck, directed by Davidson College theater professor Ann Marie Costa and starring Davidson College actress Kelsey Formost. “The Scene” is a comedy about dating, fame, fulfillment and obsession with pop culture. Mrs. Roberts, now 90 years old, has worked as a book and fashion illustrator, sketched wounded veterans for the USO and attended both the National Academy and Arts Students League in New York City.
