Rough Draft plays a Concert on the Green Sunday.

This week’s events include a planning board meeting, another Concert on the Green next Sunday, and kids’ events at the library. And did you know there ‘s a runoff election Tuesday to determine the Democratic candidate for state Commissioner of Labor?

Mary Fant Donnan and John C. Brooks are both vying for the labor commissioner nomination. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

To vote in the primary runoff, you must be registered as a Democrat or as an unaffiliated voter. Republicans are not eligible nor are unaffiliated voters who cast Republican ballots in the May 6 primary election. More information is available at meckboe.org

WEEK OF JUNE 23-29

MONDAY, JUNE 23, 7 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – June meeting of the Planning Board. The main item on the agenda is a review of proposed planning ordinance amendments in the N.C. 73/Davidson-Concord Road area. The town is considering rezoning parts of the area to allow for mixed-use and other non-residential uses. on the Town Website. TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Davidson Town Hall, Hopewell Baptist Church and other precinct polling stations – Primary election runoff for the Democratic nomination for state Commission of Labor. Details: www.meckboe.org.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25,, 10 a.m., Davidson public library branch, on the Village Green – “Paws to Read” program for kindergarten and elementary school aged children. Free.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25,, 4 p.m., Davidson public library branch, on the Village Green – The Chatroom book discussion group for 5th graders and up. This months book is “The Sky Inside” by Clare B. Dunkle. Copies available at the branch. Call 704-892-8557 for details.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25, 2-3:30 p.m., Davidson Parks & Recreation office, 416 Armour St. – Davidson Senior Scholars program on “Myth of Aging,” with Kristi Multhaup, professor of psychology at Davidson College. Free. Registration recommended. Call 704-892-3349.

THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 a.m., Davidson public library branch, on the Village Green – “Bugs on My Head” for elementary school kids. Listen to a story and make a buggy hat. Free. Registration required by caling 704-892-8557.

THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 7:05 p.m., Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, Kannapolis – Team USA baseball vs. Chinese Taipei. This is an exhibition game as the US Olympic baseball team readies for the summer Olympic Games in Beijing. The Team USA coaching staff includes Davidson College coach Dick Cooke.

SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Fisher Farm Park, off Shearer Road – The Cycle Path, South Park Cycles and Davidson Parks & Recreation are co-hosting an MTB bicycle demo. Check out the newest offerings from manufacturers Kana and Specialized. Free.

Mrs. Roberts, now 90 years old, has worked as a book and fashion illustrator, sketched wounded veterans for the USO and attended both the National Academy and Arts Students League in New York City.
