Women’s clothing and accessories shop Monkee’s of Lake Norman will
host a fund-raiser Friday, June 6, for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, featuring an autograph session with Davidson College basketball coaches Bob McKillop and Matt Matheny, whose team advanced to the NCAA basketball tourney’s Elite 8 this spring.
Meanwhile, Restaurant X on South Main Street will donate 10 percent of profits on Thursday, June 12, to help victims of the recent earthquake in China.
Monkee’s invites Davidson Wildcat fans young and old to bring basketballs and Wildcat souvenirs to Friday’s event, which starts at 4:30. Donations will be accepted for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, according to owner Sandy Bowers. Monkee’s is at 624 Jetton St., in the Harris Teeter shopping center. Christina Phillips, owner of Restaurant X, said she and husband Chris Phillips have been to the area of China near where the earthquake struck. “We were just watching the TV and said, let’s do something,” Ms. Phillips said.
The restaurant will open that day 11 to 3 and 5:30 to 10.
