North Mecklenburg will remember servicepeople who died in the line of service at a Memorial Day observance Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at American Legion Post 86, 21215 Legion St., Cornelius
Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Hoyal Kye will give the keynote speech. Color guards from Hopewell High School Junior ROTC and American Legion Post 86 will raise the colors. The Mt. Zion Singers will sing patriotic songs during the event, which will be led by Post 86 Cmdr. John Washam.
Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte will give a welcome speech, and there will be a wreath-laying with Davidson Mayor John Woods and Jeanny Dowdy, both of whom lost family members in Vietnam.
The ceremony will conclude with a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps,” Cmdr. Washam said.
