The college students have left town
and the busy spring in Davidson is winding down. But that doesn’t mean the community calendar is empty. This week’s schedule includes meetings, exhibits, a concert by The Wild Rose Ensemble of San Francisco, and a landscaping program at the public library. THURSDAY, MAY 22, 7:30 p.m. – A dessert reception is planned at the home of Ann Pegelow Kaplan and Thomas Kaplan to raise money for Jodi Helmer’s fund-raising hike through the Grand Canyon on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Details in our May 17 news item.

SATURDAY, MAY 24, 11 a.m., American Legion Post 86, 21215 Legion St., Cornelius – North Mecklenburg Memorial Day ceremony, with a keynote speech by retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Hoyal Kye, color guards from Hopewell High School ROTC cadets and American Legion Post 86, and the Mt. Zion Singers. Welcoming remarks by Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte and a wreath-laying by Davidson Mayor John Woods and Jeanny Dowdy, both of whom lost family members in Vietnam.
