The Town of Davidson has hired Erica Palmisano as GIS technician and planner in the planning department. Ms. Palmisano comes to Davidson from Endicott, N.Y.

She fills a vacancy created by the departure of Adam Feigl.

Ms. Palmisano started Monday, April 21. She has a master’s degree in geography and GIS (geographic information systems) from the State University of New York at Albany.GIS uses computerized geographical information to generate specialized maps and help planners view and analyze data.

Ms. Palmisano also has a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from the State University of New York at Oneonta.

She joins Davidson’s other planning staffers, including planning director Kris Krider, planners Lauren Blackburn and Parviz Moosavi, and planning assistant Sandy Kragh.

Mr. Krider said Ms. Palmisano fills the GIS technician vacancy, but also could have an expanded role. “I see her taking on planning responsibilities in support of our two Town Planners (Ms. Blackburn and Mr. Moosavi). She will be working with Sandy (Kragh) to produce a redesigned planning ordinance. And we have several large scale mapping needs that will also help her become familiar with regional features,” he said.

Ms. Palmisano said she is excited to come to Davidson, because of its reputation for smart growth planning.

“I do like small towns and the planning department in Davidson is just amazing,” she said.

She said her job will be “to help with mapping and to keep Davidson simple and beautiful, just like it is now.”
