Bobcats now available on local cable

Tuesday’s announcement in Charlotte about a new cable TV partnership for the National Basketball Association Charlotte Bobcats means Bobcats’ games will now be available to cable subscribers in north Mecklenburg and south Iredell.
MI-Connection, the local cable TV system owned by the towns of Davidson and Mooresville, announced Wednesday that local viewers will be able to watch the remainder of the Bobcats’ games this season, on cable channels Fox Sports Net South and sister network SportsSouth.
The change is the result of a complicated deal announced Tuesday that, ironically, involves the company that lost out in its efforts to acquire the local cable system – Time Warner Cable. Time Warner operated the system temporarily in recent years while the towns decided whether to exercise an option to buy the system. After a lengthy legal dispute, the towns bought the system in December.
The NBA team announced it will rename Bobcats Arena in Charlotte as Time Warner Cable Arena. The deal also calls for the Bobcats’ broadcasts to move from Time Warner’s News 14, to FSN South, which reaches customers beyond Time Warner’s Carolinas systems.
