Teams from local businesses will transform unfinished rocking chairs into works of art while visitors sample food and live music during Rocking Chairs on the Green Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in downtown Davidson. It’s the first of a series of community events during the monthlong April is for Arts festival in north Mecklenburg.
In case of rain, the event will move from the Village Green into the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Congregation House.
Creative Art Exchange in Cornelius has helped line up artist coaches for the event, including: Jane Ellithorpe, David Smith, Lynda Abel, Sandie Bell, Nina Cartee, Lynn and Caron Andrus and representatives from Masterworks School of the Arts. The event also will include jugglers and face-painting (thanks to Davidson residents Evelyn and Bea Denham).
Once completed, the rocking chairs will be placed throughout Davidson to remind everyone that April is for Arts.
Meanwhile, other events during the month include a Gallery Crawl April 12 and Art on the Green April 19 and 20. Read on for more. And for a list of events in and outside Davidson this month, see the Arts & Science Council’s CharlotteCultureGuide.com.
The project was made possible in part through a Cultural Project Grant from the Arts & Science Council and the Grassroots Program of the North Carolina Arts Council.
