Ron and Diane Hylton opened Ultimate Salon at 432 South Main St., in South Main Square, on April 1. Mr. Hilton, who is from West Virginia, said he has been a stylist in the area for three years, since moving to North Carolina. Before that he and his wife owned a salon in Glade Springs Resort, outside Beckley, W. Va., for 14 years.

The couple have been scouting Davidson locations for some time, Mr. Hylton said Thursday.

“We moved here almost three years and this particular location (Davidson) has been a favorite spot for us,” Mr. Hylton said in an interview. “We just aways said this would be an awesome place for us. Then when we started looking for buildings, this particular building (in South Main Square) … was available.”

Mr. Hylton has been in the salon business for 18 years, and has had hundreds of hours of training in styling, color and foil highlight techniques. The store will feature Well, Bumble & Bumble and other personal care products.

Plans call for expanding the salon’s offerings in the future to include manicures and pedicures. For now, Mr. Hylton is the salon’s sole stylist, but he expects to add as many as three additional stylists in the next 6 months.
