Here’s a chance to cast one final vote for the Wildcats this basketball season: Folks in the Davidson College community are passing around the Web address for an online vote, on the NCAA Sports Website, where fans can pick the “game-changing performance” of the NCAA tournament so far.

Meanwhile, will there be a local celebration in honor of the Cats’ big season?

CONTEST PRIZE: $100,000 SCHOLARSHIP

One of the eight plays nominated for the honor is a three-point shot by Davidson’s Stephen Curry late in the Cats’ victory over Gonzaga. Fans will determine which play is tops – and which school will get a $100,000 scholarship from the promotion’s car-company sponsor. Eight $8,000 scholarships also will be awarded to Web users who submit votes (note: voting requires giving your name and address). Voting continues through April 7. To vote, CLICK HERE>

CELEBRATION FOR CATS?

Meanwhile, many who followed the Widlcats’ exciting run at the NCAA tournament are wondering if there will be a local celebration for the Wildcats. We talked to Mayor John Woods and Davidson College officials Wednesday and learned that they are in discussions to plan a public event of some kind. Davidson spokeswoman Stacey Schmeidel said the event will probably next week (the week of April 7) or the week after (week of April 14).

There’s no date set at this point. Stay tuned – we’ll post news here as soon as we hear something.
