Have you ever heard a music group for the first time and thought “Wow, that was incredible! Their music took me to another world!” In the classical music world, that’s what audiences have been saying about Manhattan Piano Trio (pictured), which appears Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Lane in Davidson.
Hailed by critics as a “grand departure from the usual,” the Manhattan Piano Trio won the grand prize at both the 2007 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition and 2006 Plowman Competition and was runner up at the 2006 Chesapeake International Competition. It also received the 2007 ABC Classic FM Listener’s choice award in Australia.
The trio is pianist Milana Strezeva, violinist Dmitry Lukin, and cellist Dmitry Kouzov. The two Dmitrys are from St. Petersburg , Russia, and met Milana, a Moldavian born American, literally on the front steps of The Juilliard School during the summer of 2004.
