Photographer Christopher Record, who opened a studio above Main Street Books last spring, has come up with a great way to get to know our town. He’s scouting for subjects to photograph in a project he’s calling “Faces of Davidson.”
The longtime Charlotte Observer photographer now has his own business doing weddings, portraits and commercial photography. But he hasn’t lost his passion for documenting the people and places he sees. And he sees Davidson as a place with stories to tell.
“Davidson is changing so much. … It seems like a good time to pause and document the situation with some of the people here,” Mr. Record said Tuesday.
So in a notice on his blog and through fliers posted around town, Mr. Record is soliciting suggestions of people to photograph – community leaders, businesspeople, students, familiar faces, people from the college.
“We’ve already gotten some good ideas. We’re trying to make it pretty diverse.”
He’s hoping to find 20 to 30 people. He’s accepting nominations through the end of February and plans to spend several days shooting, probably March 18-20.
Eventually, the photographs will form an exhibition, which Mr. Record plans to display somewhere in town. (He’s also looking for a venue.) And he’ll post them on his website.
The project is both a creative outlet for Mr. Record, and also a way for him and wife/business partner Betsy to promote the business. “And we want to get to know people, too,” he said.
If you’d like to suggest a person for the project, email Mr. Record at crecord@carolina.rr.com or call 704-892-9662.
