MONDAY, FEB. 11, 4:30 p.m., Davidson College Alvarez College Union Sprinkle Room – “Historical Fact and Historical Fiction: The Challenge of the Historian’s Craft,” a panel discussion with Davidson college history department faculty Robin Barnes, Joe Dennis, Michael Guasco, Ralph Levering, Sally McMillen and Jane Mangan. The discussion is part of the Royal Shakespeare Co. residency, which is producing a new play, “Little Eagles,” examining a key period of American history: the Cold War space race. Free.
TUESDAY, FEB. 12, 7 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Monthly Town Board meeting. Agenda includes a presentation about the work of the Public Art Task Force and a vote that would allow the task force to apply for a state arts grant, an update on the MI Connection cable system, a vote on a resolution to show support for an $8.5 million engineering study for the North Corridor Rail Line, and a vote approving a loan proposal for purchase of a new fire truck. Davidson College Student Austin Bell will show his “What’s Goin’ on Down the Road,” a short video report on development and issues in Davidson. aturday morning will be Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee, author of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Other speakers and panelists will include historical novelist, non-fiction writer, and literary critic Thomas Mallon, Shakespearean Phyllis Rackin from the University of Pennsylvania, and scholars of modern drama Laurence Senelick from Tufts University and Mary Karen Dahl from Florida State University.
