A 2-inch gas main under Ridgewood Avenue, off Woodland Street, was cut Tuesday afternoon in what appears to have been a construction accident.
Davidson firefighters on the scene Tuesday night said nobody was hurt in the incident. They said a construction crew digging in the area cut the line accidentally.
At 7:30 p.m., the area still smelled of leaking gas. But the line had been secured.
A gas company supervisor on the scene would not comment on the incident. He said details about the cause could be available on Wednesday.
