The Town Board on Tuesday approved without discussion the Parks & Recreation Department’s request to seek a state grant for construction of a new park at the south end of South Street, near the entrance to the Greenway.
The South Street park proposal had been on the agenda at the regular Town Board meeting Jan. 8, but was deferred at the request of two new board members. They suggested that the board take a closer look at the project and overall town priorities during the retreat.
On Tuesday, the four board members present unanimously approved the motion to apply for the $446,000 grant. Board member Evan Webster was absent, still recovering from a knee injury.
In approving the application, the board also agreed that the town would provide matching funds if it receives the grant.
HOUSE SALE
The board also authorized the town to advertise the sale of a home it owns at 107 Pine Road, at the southeast corner of the Pine Road and Concord Road intersection. The town has an offer for the site, but by law must advertise for an upset bid at least 5 percent higher.
The town has considered various uses for the building over the past couple of years, including renovating it for affordable housing. The one-story house is 2,350 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2½ baths.
