Artisan Builders approached the Town Board last night with a proposal for reviving their delayed Mooney’s Corner project at 212 S. Main St., next to Town Hall.
The group in 2004 won approval to replace the current structure – once an auto dealership and later the town library – with a three-story retail and office building. But it chose not the build the project because of rising construction prices.
It still has the right to build that building with no additional approvals, though the approvals will expire soon.
Planner/architect Dave Malushizky of the Lawrence Group represented Artisan at the meeting, asking the board to consider selling an easement just south of the building. The group said it would like the extra property to expand the building’s footprint. That would create a larger retail space on the ground floor that could make it easier to attract a restaurant tenant.
Town officials plan to meet with Artisan to discuss the idea. If Artisan revises its plans, it would have to resubmit them for planning staff and Design Review Board approval.
