The New Neighborhood in Old Davidson held its second annual Winter Holiday Decorating Contest this week, picking two homes as winners out of many strong entries, according to neighborhood president Dave Smith.
The single-family home prize goes to the Swartz family (Gregg and Lesley and two children) at 310 Fairview Lane. “This house is a showcase!” Mr. Smith says. “The front porch displays a traditional Scandinavian Santa and nutcrackers on either side of the door. Packages also are scattered about. All windows (front, sides, back) display a single white candle light. A large lighted wreath adorns the garage wall facing the street. The Santa flag on the side, spot lights, and other colored lights, along with the Christmas music always playing from the front porch just beg you to celebrate Christmas here.”
The family received a blue ribbon, which is displayed next to the picket fence gate in front.
BEST TOWNHOME
The neighborhood judges looked at townhomes as well, and picked the decorations put up by Valerie Burcham, 433 O. Henry Avenue. Says Mr. Smith: “Her lower and upper porches are draped with greenery and accented at night with white lights. There is a lighted wreath on the door and lighted trees next to the steps.”
