N.C. 73 area meeting, Town Board

In Davidson this week, the town will send off Mayor Randy Kincaid and two commissioners and swear in a new board,
and residents will have a chance to offer their input during a community planning workshop for the N.C. 73/Davidson-Concord Road area. Also, the Design Review Board will take another look at the proposed retail/office building on the current site of Stowe’s Exxon. And guitarist Tim Reynolds visits Davidson College for a concert.

MONDAY, DEC. 10, 9-11 a.m., Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Satellite office hours for U.S. Rep. Mel Watt, staffed by Tony McEwen, district liaison. Details: 704-344-9950.
TUESDAY, DEC. 11, 7 p.m., Davidson Public Library – Local authors will be reading from “13 Terrifying Tales from the North Carolina Piedmont,” a collection of area ghost stories.
TUESDAY, DEC. 11, 7 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – December Town Board meeting, including farewell to outgoing Mayor Randy Kincaid and board members Cary Johnston and Bruce McMillen as well as swearing-in of new Mayor John Woods and board members Margo Williams, Evan Webster, Bill Johnson, Brian Jenest and Laurie Venzon. WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12, 7 p.m., Town Hall – December Design Review Board meeting. Agenda includes consideration of a proposed office/retail building on the site of the current Stowe’s Exxon.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12, 8 p.m., Duke Family Performance Hall, Davidson College – An evening with guitarist Tim Reynolds, who has been a collaborator with Dave Matthews.Tickets $20, or $10 for Davidson faculty, staff, students.
THURSDAY, DEC. 13, 7 p.m., Cornelius Town Hall community room – Community planning workshop for the N.C. 73/Davidson-Concord Road area plan. This is the second in a series of meetings as part of a joint Davidson-Cornelius-Huntersville planning process to guide development in the area. Residents are invited to attend and give their input. THURSDAY, DEC. 13, 7 p.m., Baker Sports Complex Belk Arena, Davidson College – Davidson men’s basketball vs. Citadel.
FRIDAY, DEC. 14, 7-10:30 p.m., Davidson IB Middle School gym, South Street – Contra Dance Carolina will hold a night of high-energy dancing, with free lessons at 7ish and dancing starting at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $7 for general admission, $5 for students. Diane Silver will be the caller and “Hot Flash” will be the featured band.
SATURDAY, DEC. 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jetton Village shopping center, 19815 North Cove Road, Cornelius — Harris Teeter job fair, for full-time and part-time jobs at the new Davidson Harris Teeter store, off Exit 30.
SATURDAY, DEC. 15, 7 p.m., Baker Sports Complex Belk Arena, Davidson College – Davidson women’s basketball vs. High Point University.
ART EXHIBITS & OPENINGS
THROUGH DEC. 12, Davidson College Visual Arts Center, Main and Griffith streets – “Collected Light: Photography from the Permanent Collection,” including work by such noted photographers as Arbus, Atget, and Kertesz; also, the “Davidson Open Photography Exhibition,” with work by college students, faculty and staff, including Herb Jackson, gallery director Brad Thomas and visiting artist Ryan O’Malley. Gallery hours: Weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekends noon to 4 p.m.
THROUGH DEC. 30, Town Hall, 216 S. Main St., and Bradford subdivision model home, 19918 Davidson-Concord Road – Children’s Photo Project, an exhibit of images by 78 fourth graders from area schools. The students were given disposable cameras to photograph a person or place in town. Each photo is accompanied by a narrative describing the story behind their subject.
THROUGH DECEMBER, Cornelius Arts Center, Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak Street, behind the police station, Cornelius –
