Kathie Turner, a professor of communications studies at Davidson College, will lecture on the history of comic strips as part of the community-wide DavidsonREADS program tonight at 7 p.m. at Davidson United Methodist Church, Room 210, 233 S. Main St.
The illustrated lecture “As American as Apple Pie: Comic Strips and Our Society” will discuss how comic strips have reflected and affected American society for more than a century.
DavidsonREADS is a partnership between the Davidson Parks & Recreation Department, Davidson Public Library, Main Street Books and local readers. The committee has selected the novel The Bridge, by North Carolina native Doug Marlette, as the first book to be read by the community. Other events, including a Halloween night pumpkin carving program on the Green, are also planned.
For details, or to register, visit the rec department website at www.d-Recs.org or contact Sharon Williams at 704-892-3349.
