Part of Roosevelt Wilson Park off Griffith Street will be closed through the end of the month starting today so Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities can replace a sewer pipe. The closing does not affect the playground, bathrooms or picnic area. Meanwhile, the park’s pond is being allowed to refill naturally.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities is replacing a sewer line that currently runs through the pond. The line became visible when the pond was drained for the work last month.
Meanwhile town officials say the pond is now being allowed to refill naturally, which is deemed the best way to refill it environmentally. Fish were removed when the pond was drained. Town officials say the pond will be restocked when the water level reaches a safe level.
Questions about the sewer construction may be directed to Brian Pate, project manager with CMU, 704-391-4682.
