Neighborhood meetings, Run for Green

The calendar this week includes
a couple of public meetings of interest in Davidson neighborhoods. On Tuesday, residents of the Armour Street/Hobbs Hill neighborhood are invited to town hall to discuss neighborhood issues, including possibly forming a block watch. Then on Thursday, town planners and developers proposing 34 luxury homes on 17 acres off Pine Road will hold a follow-up planning workshop, beginning with a site visit at 1 p.m. Also this week, Downtown Davidson Inc.’s annual meeting Thursday and the Davidson Land Conservancy’s Run for Green half-marathon, 5-k and fun run.
SEPT. 16-22
TUESDAY, SEPT. 18, 7 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Armour Street/Hobbs Hill neighborhood meeting, including discussion of the recent shooting and possible formation of a neighborhood crime watch.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 18, 7 p.m., Davidson College Baker Sports Complex – Davidson Volleyball vs. Winthrop.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 18, 7:30 p.m., Lilly Family Gallery, Chambers Hall, Davidson College – Kelley History Lecture with Wilson J. Moses, the Ferree Professor of American History at Pennsylvania State University. He’ll talk about “The American Enlightenment and European Romanticism.” Free.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 20, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Davidson Village Inn, 117 Depot St. – Downtown Davidson Inc. 2007 Annual Meeting, “Hip and Historic,” featuring guest speaker Kris Krider, the town planning director. Also, wine and cheese as well as elections and annual report. Information available from Downtown Davidson Director Kate MacIntyre, 704-892-2118.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 20, 1-9 p.m. – Followup planning workshop for a proposed 34-unit luxury housing development on 17 acres off Pine Road. Begins with a visit to the site at end of Pine Road, 1 p.m. Notice on the town website. Sept. 7 story on DavidsonNews.net
SATURDAY, SEPT. 22, 8 a.m., South Street. 2007 Run for Green half-marathon, 5-k and fun run/pet walk, to benefit Davidson Lands Conservancy. Course includes portions of the new Davidson Greenway. Parking available at Davidson United Methodist Church. Pre-registration and other information available at www.runforthegreen.com. Also, volunteers needed to help with water stations and other duties.
