The Lake Norman Art League begins its 2007-2008 monthly meeting series on Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. with an oil portrait demonstration by Katherine Blackwell, store manager for the Charlotte art supply outlet Cheap Joe’s.

The meeting is at Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St., in Davidson. It’s free and open to the public.

Ms. Blackwell has an extensive understanding of the techniques and materials used in oil portraiture, including proportion, perspective, color theory, oil paints, and mediums.
