Davidson Community Players will conduct auditions on Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. in Room 216 at Davidson College Presbyterian Church for a November production of Alfred Uhry’s “Driving Miss Daisy.”
Melissa Ohlman-Roberge will direct the play, which begins in 1948 in the Deep South, just before the dawn of the civil rights era. Through a series of scenes over 25 years, it portrays the evolving interaction between a wealthy Jewish widow named Daisy Wertham and her black chauffer. “Driving Miss Daisy” won a 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play.
Callbacks, if needed, will be Tuesday, Sept. 11. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script; a one-minute monologue is encouraged but not required. Bring a headshot or photo and a resume if available. Actors are also asked to bring a conflict list to the auditions.
The roles of 72-year-old Daisy Werthan and her middle-aged son, Boolie, are available. Davidson Community Players said the role of Hoke, the chauffeur, will be played by award-winning actor Sidney Horton.
Performances will be Nov. 8-11 and 15-18 at Children’s Community School Black Box Theatre, Davidson. Rehearsals will be weekends starting Sept. 24.
