Concerts on the Green will resume with a swing band Sunday evening, so grab your dancing shoes and a lawn chair and plan to be at the village green by 6 p.m. Also this weekend, Davidson artists will be among those exhibiting at the Cotton Ketchie Arts Festival in Mooresville this weekend, Main Street Books will hold a story hour for children Friday morning and Summit Coffee will have cool tunes Friday and Saturday evening.The final two events of Downtown Davidson’s Concerts on the Green series will include a swing band this Sunday, followed by the Davidson College Symphony & Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, Sept. 23. Concerts are 6-8 p.m. at the village green in front of the public library. Pizza will be available for sale and community artists have been invited to exhibit. Families are welcome to bring picnics to these free public events. This Sunday’s performance will feature the Gastonia-based StarDusters Big Band, which specializes in swing music from the 30s, 40s and 50s.
Main Street Books will hold story time for the five and under crowd starting at 10 a.m. Friday. For more information, contact the store at 704-892-6841.
Summit Coffee on Main Street will host Miles Apart, a five-member folk rock band from Charlotte, on Friday and then The Mike Strauss Band, which plays Americana rock, on Saturday. Performances are 8-11 p.m.
The Cotton Ketchie Arts Festival will feature a charity gala Friday at 6 p.m. that will include food and drink, dancing to the music of Night Shift and an auction of artwork to benefit SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). Tickets are $50 per person. Saturday the festival will host a free public showing of art, with food, artist demonstrations, children’s activities and a raffle for one of artist Cotton Ketchie’s latest prints. All events will be at the Charles Mack Citizens Center at 215 North Main Street in Mooresville.
