The Davidson community calendar this week includes a couple of important public meetings – Monday night’s joint meeting with Mooresville on the proposed cable TV system purchase and Tuesday’s town board meeting. Later in the week, there’s music at Summit coffee, the annual Cotton Ketchie Arts Festival and, next Sunday, another Concert on the Green.
Monday’s cable TV vote has been in the planning stages since 2005, when area towns began studying a proposal to buy the system formerly operated by now bankrupt Adelphia Communications. For more about the vote, read the Aug. 7 article “Towns vote next week on cable buy.” See also our ongoing coverage of the issue.
TOWN BOARD
Meanwhile, it may be the doldrums of August, but the Davidson Town Board also has a second meeting this week – its monthly meeting Tuesday. There’s a full agenda.
The board will consider revised master plans for both the Davidson Commons East development as well as the Cottages on Potts (Street). It also will vote on a conditional zoning request for 131 Grey Road.
The consent agenda, which the board typically adopts without discussion, includes a capital spending plan for 2008-2012 and approval of agreements with Virginia-based Community Housing Partners Corp. for financing and purchase of the Oakhill Apartments on Beaty Street.
In May, Town Manager Leamon Brice said the town has agreed to provide a $250,000 loan to help Community Housing Partners buy the apartments and preserve them as affordable housing. Oakhill Apartments are on 8 acres near the Ingersoll-Rand plant. For more about that deal, see our May 8 article “Town agrees to help Oakhill deal.”
