For Harry Potter fans, the big weekend Harry Potter 7has arrived: Events in downtown Davidson Friday night Weekend calendarwill help readers celebrate release of the latest (and last) Harry Potter book. But that’s not all you’ll find in and around Davidson this weekend. We’ve got details on music at Summit Coffee and The Brickhouse Tavern as well as performances by Davidson Community Players’ children’s group The Connie Company.

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Main Street Books in downtown Davidson are planning a movie screening and other events Friday (June 20) at 7 p.m. to mark publication of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the seventh and final book in the popular children’s series by British author J.K. Rowling.

At dusk, the movie “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” will be screened outdoors in the parking lot beside the ice cream shop, projected on the side of Summit Coffee. Then the party moves over to Main Street books, where they’ll have a talking parrot, games and other activities leading up to midnight, when readers can pick up copies of the new book which they’ve pre-ordered.

And from midnight to 8 a.m., the Davidson public library branch will have a “Harry Potter Lockdown” where kids rising fifth graders and above can spend the night reading the new book together. They’ll have refreshments, too. Details below.

FRIDAY, JULY 20, 7 p.m.  – Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Main Street Books will celebrate release of the seventh and final Harry Potter book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” with a night of trivia, games, prizes and a movie screening of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” Movie begins at dusk in the parking lot next to Ben & Jerry’s 202, S. Main St. Later, Main Street Books will have a talking parrot and games in advance of the 12:01 a.m. delivery of pre-ordered copies of the book. Details: Ben & Jerry’s Davidson, 704-892-0604. FRIDAY, JULY 20, 7 p.m., Cornelius Town Hall – Davidson Community Players presents a performance of “The Connie Company Plays with Pirates.” The show is the culmination of The Connie Company’s 2007 Rupert T. Barber Jr. summer workshop series and will help raise money for the Cornelius Animal Shelter. In lieu of tickets, audience members are asked to bring a can or bag of dog or cat food.

SATURDAY, JULY 21, 10 a.m., Farmer’s Market, Main and Maxwell streets, Huntersville – Davidson Community Players present a free performance of “The Connie Company Plays with Pirates” as part of this year’s Huntersville in Bloom at the Caboose series, hosted by Huntersville Parks and Recreation.

SUNDAY, JULY 22, 7 p.m., Davidson Town Hall – Davidson Community Players performs “The Connie Company Plays with Pirates.” Admission $2 for kids, $3 for adults. For information, contact Davidson Community Players at 704 892-7953.
