Watch a show, wash your car, give some blood

 Weekend calendarThis weekend is your last chance to catch the Davidson Community Players’ performance of “Hello, Dolly!”  The run will end Saturday and tickets are still available.  Also on the events calendar are a car wash and open house at the Ada Jenkins Center, Copperheads baseball, music at Summit Coffee, a blood drive and a town planning board meeting.

The last two performances of “Hello, Dolly!”  – a musical being staged at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall – will be Friday and Saturday, with the curtain rising at 8 p.m.  Ticket reservations are available at 704-892-7918. Music at Summit Coffee this weekend will include The Near Misses, a quartet of Charlotte-area women singers, performing Friday, followed by the guitar-picking Rick Spreitzer Saturday. Performances are 8-11 p.m.

Chad Jenkins, a pitcher drafted by the Washington Nationals out of high school has just been added to the Davidson Copperheads roster and will make his first start Friday night in a double-header with the Carolina Sox of York County, S.C.  The Copperheads (6-8 in Southern Collegiate Baseball League) will play at 5 and 7 p.m. at Davidson College.  Then on Monday the team will host the Tennessee Tornado starting at 7 p.m.

The Boys and Girls Club of Davidson will hold a carwash Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the Ada Jenkins Center.  The event is a fund-raiser for an upcoming trip to Myrtle Beach and to purchase club t-shirts.

The Ada Jenkins Center will honor the retirement of Executive Director Bill Johnson with an open house Monday from 6-8 p.m.  Punch and cookies will be served.  The center is located at 212 Gamble Street.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Monday, 3-7:30 p.m., at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.  Donors will get a coupon for Chick-fil-A and a chance to win a $750 gas card.  For an appointment, call Barbara Bryant at 704-582-1059.

The June Planning Board meeting for the Town of Davidson will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the town hall.  The agenda currently lists discussion of the Davidson-Concord Road small area plan and a presentation by Kate MacIntyre, the executive director of Downtown Davidson.
