Singers will be serenading summer this weekend in Davidson. From folk artists at Summit Coffee to a fifth-generation Davidsonian performing a concert Saturday, music is the name of the game this weekend.
Also, consider story time for toddlers at Main Street Books, a Shabbat service Friday at the college, and remember that area churches are beginning summer schedules. Plus, tickets are on sale for a few fun upcoming events.
EVENTS -
Story hour for the toddler set will be held the first and third Fridays of June, or June 1 and 15. The event is hosted by Main Street Books and begins at 10 a.m.
Beth Shalom of Lake Norman will hold a Shabbat service and dinner starting at 6:15 p.m. Friday at the Davidson College Union. The community, dedicated to developing Jewish life in this region, has just received a fellowship that will bring a rabbinical intern for the next two years and possibly longer.
Summit Coffee on Main Street will host The Mike Strauss Trio Friday, followed by Davidson’s own folk and Celtic musician Kate Minogue Saturday. Performances are 8-11 p.m.
Fifth-generation Davidsonian Mary Kathryn Withers will perform “Around the World and Back Again” Saturday starting at 7 p.m. in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church sanctuary. Ms. Withers is a soprano and will perform works by Handel, Schubert and others, accompanied by pianist Christy Wisuthseriwong.
Keep in mind that several area churches have started their summer hours for Sunday worship services. Davidson United Methodist Church, Hopewell Baptist and Davidson United Presbyterian Church will continue with regular worship times. At DCPC, services will be at 8:45 and 11 a.m. during the summer, while at St. Alban’s Episcopal summer worship will be at 8 and 10 a.m.
