A Mother’s Day Rally for Peace is planned Sunday, May 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Village Green in Davidson, organized by mothers committed to finding peaceful resolutions to world conflict.
The event will include speeches by Davidson Mayor Randy Kincaid, UNC Charlotte anthropologist Joyce Dalsheim, military veteran Scottie Nicholls and Davidson College religion professor emeritus David Kaylor.
Musical entertainment will include Billy Jones, Kate Minogue and friends.
Organizers are taking a cue from the “Mother’s Day Proclamation,” Julie Ward Howe’s 1870 reflection on the horrors of the U.S. Civil War and other wars. In the proclamation, Ms. Howe said women have a responsibility to help shape their societies.
