Catawba Avenue will be closed for about six weeks between Main Street and Potts Street, next to Fuel Pizza, beginning on Monday while Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities constructs a new sewer line.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities says the road will be closed until March 30. That means if you use Catawba to get to or from Jetton Street, you’ll have to find a detour.
As we reported in January, the project will construct a new sewer line from Catawba and Main to the foot of South Street. The new line will replace two older lines that run behind the homes on the south side of Walnut Street.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Project Manager Brian D. Pate said in January that traffic on Main Street will not be affected because the line will be burrowed under the street.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they would wait until the second roundabout is finished on Griffith Street before closing Catawba? We have two ways to I-77; must they BOTH be clogged and congested at once?
