Christina Phillips of Restaurant X on South Main Street (right) accepts her award for best vegetarian soup at last weekend’s Souper Bowl fund-raiser. With her are HAMMERS chair Rosie Molinary and Davidson Housing Coalition executive director Marcia Webster.
About 420 people sipped soups and helped raise $6,500 for the HAMMERS emergency home repair program in the third annual “Souper Bowl” Saturday, Feb. 3.
Soups from nine area restaurants were served at the event, sponsored in part by homebuilder Saussy Burbank. Proceeds went to the Davidson Housing Coalition‘s HAMMERS program, which stands for Hands Around Mecklenburg/Mooresville Making Emergency Repairs
Safely.
Participants rated the soups, choosing a Charleston she-crab soup by William Buntin and Incredible Edibles Full Service Catering as best overall. Other winners: Tim Schafer’s at Lake Norman, most creative, for a wild mushroom cappuccino with white truffle foam and rosemary parmesan crostini; The Prickly Pear, most creamy, for cream of corn and poblano; Jeffrey’s, most chunky, for chocolate chili; and Restaurant X, best vegetarian for a potato leek soup.
