A 50-year-old Davidson man told police last week that he lent his car to a female acquaintance nearly two months ago, and hasn’t seen it since.
Also last week, police issued a dozen citations after traffic stops on Griffith Street, including 9 for speeding. (See below). And residents in the St. Alban’s neighborhood recently got some help from town officials after they complained about speeding.
The 50-year-old man came to police headquarters and reported that his Pontiac Grand Prix had been stolen. He said it was worth $1,500. He told police a 25-year-old female acquaintance borrowed the car on Sept. 29 and has never returned it. Police are investigating.
ST. ALBAN’S NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC
More than half the drivers on Fairview Lane, off Concord Road in the St. Alban’s neighborhood, is speeding, according to a study town officials did at the request of neighborhood residents. The speed limit is 20 miles per hour. In addition, 12 to 15 percent of drivers are going faster than 30 mph, and one was clocked at 50 mph, in the study.
Residents asked the town to look into their traffic concerns and the results are similar to what has been found in other neighborhoods – Davidsonians like to speed and run stop signs.
A report on the traffic study was delivered at a neighborhood meeting on Oct. 28, according to the neighborhood newsletter. Police patrol the neighborhood, watching for violations. The most common infraction is failure to stop at a stop sign. Drivers who were cited have all been residents of either the St. Alban’s neighborhood or the nearby McConnell neighborhood, the newsletter reports.
“As a deterrent, police will continue to set up checks throughout the neighborhood,” the newsletter said.
A neighborhood committee is evaluating the report, including ideas for traffic calming.
