Davidson firefighters responded to a handful of alarms over the past week, including a cooking fire in the River Run neighborhood and an alarm at the Davidson Public Library, which turned out to have been triggered by construction dust from a bathroom renovation.

FIRE CALLS

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 4, 1:23 p.m., Davidson Public Library, 119 S. Main St – Alarm activated, unintentional, no fire. Construction dust from library bathroom renovations set off the smoke alarm. Employees were advised to keep a fire watch until the alarm could be reset.
THURSDAY, NOV. 5, River Run Country Club, 18801 Greyton Lane – Alarm activation, no fire. Some bumped and accidentally activated an alarm pull station.
THURSDAY, NOV. 5, 9:56 a.m., I-77 southbound, Exit 28, Cornelius – Firefighters responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. After arriving on the scene, the call was canceled.
FRIDAY, NOV. 6, 6:24 a.m., Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 S. Main St. – Small fire in a container, contained.
SUNDAY, NOV. 8, 11:01 a.m., Davidson College Eco House, 439 N. Main St. – Smoke detector activated, no fire.
SUNDAY, NOV. 8, 1:28 p.m., 17700 River Ford Drive, River Run – Firefighters extinguished a cooking fire, which was limited to the cooking container.
MONDAY, NOV. 9, I-77 northbound, mile marker 31, Mount Mourne – Dispatched to report of a tractor-trailer fire, canceled en route.

The Town Board on Tuesday took time out from its monthly meeting to recognize Miles Brown of Huntersville, formerly of Davidson, for his work in raising money for the Davidson Volunteer Fire Department. Mayor John Woods jokingly referred to the concert as “Barnstock,” because it was held in a barn at the family’s home in Huntersville last summer. Mr. Brown, a senior at Cannon School, helped bring in $2,500, which the department will use to buy oxygen tanks.
