The Davidson Fire Department responded to a couple of automobile accident reports, a mino
r electrical fire in a River Run home and a small brush fire on Jetton Street over the past week. Firefighters also were called to several false alarms at commercial buildings, including two at the Day’s Inn in Cornelius, and another at the Liburdi Dimetrics plant on Armour St.
FIRE CALLS
TUESDAY, OCT. 13, 8:09 p.m., Liburdi factory, 404 Armour St. – Alarm sounded due to malfunction. No fire. While on site, emergency personnel smelled gas and found a small gas leak near a meter and notified the gas company. The Liburdi property also was the scene of several false alarms last week.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 14, 10:10 a.m., 612 Westside Terrace – Emergency call, canceled while firefighters were en route.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 14, 11:08 a.m., 1300 block of Grey Road – Automobile accident. A woman driver was slightly injured when her car swerved off the west road, struck a tree and ended up in a field near Davidson College’s Erwin Lodge. Details in our Oct. 14 news item.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 14, 5:38 p.m., I-77 southbound, near Exit 30 – Vehicle accident.
THURSDAY, OCT. 15, 10:27 a.m., Day’s Inn, 19901 Holiday Lane, Cornelius – Smoke detector activation due to malfunction.
SUNDAY, OCT. 18, 2:02 p.m., Day’s Inn, 19901 Holiday Lane, Cornelius – Fire alarm activated, no fire. Canceled en route.
SUNDAY, OCT. 18, 7:18 p.m., 326 Jetton St. – small brush fire, in 1 square foot of pine straw near the roadside. Fire was out on arrival.
MONDAY, OCT. 19, 6:47 p.m., 18624 Silent Falls Cove, River Run – Smoke entered upper floor of home after a small fire in a heating unit in the attic. The fire went out by itself. Homeowner reported his smoke detectors did not sound. Details in our Monday night news item, “Heater fire causes a scare at River Run home.”
TUESDAY, OCT. 20, 6:53 p.m., 9225 Westmoreland Road, Cornelius – Emergency call. Canceled as firefighters were en route.
