A Mooresville man is facing DWI and reckless driving charges after a two-car crash this morning (Thursday) at the busy intersection of Davidson-Concord and East Rocky River Roads.
The man was slightly hurt and taken to the hospital after the collision, which happened at around 7:15 a.m. He was alone in the car. The driver of the second car, also alone, was treated at the scene. The drivers’ names have not been released. (Update: Police have identified the driver as Kristopher Dean Bowman, 29, of Mooresville.)
Davidson Police Chief Jeanne Miller said the first driver was heading east on Concord Road toward the intersection with East Rocky River. The second car was at the stop sign, waiting to turn left and head west on Concord Road. The first driver lost control as he turned onto Davidson-Concord Road and struck the second car in the driver’s side door, the chief said.
The second car was “totaled,” the chief said, though the driver was not badly hurt.
The first driver was taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville for minor chest and elbow injuries, Chief Miller said. He was later charged with driving while intoxicated and careless and reckless driving.
Witnesses told police at the accident scene that they saw the first driver pass three other vehicles at a high rate of speed just before the crash, on Concord Road in the Kimberly Road area.
