Deaths: Charles O. Cashion, 78

Charles O. Cashion of Davidson died Oct. 18, 2008. He was 78. Visiting hours are tonight from 6 to 8 at Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville. A funeral is planned Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius. Details below …

He was born in Mecklenburg County on April 12, 1930, son of the late William Gaither Cashion and Ruby Ellington Cashion.

He was preceded in death by son, Mark C. Cashion and by brother, William W. (Shug) Cashion.

He is survived by his wife Claudette H. Cashion; sons, Kent H. Cashion, Mitchell W. Cashion and his wife Kelly; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caleb, and Ethan Cashion; sister, Josie Rhodes and husband Willis Rhodes; sister-in-law, Linda Wigley and husband Don; and nephews and nieces.

He graduated from Cornelius High School Class of 1948. He served three years active duty in the Army during the Korean conflict and 12 years in the Army Reserve as a chief warrant officer. He completed a two year electronics course on the GI Bill. He was employed by Western Electric Co. and AT&T for 40 years, retiring from AT&T in 1995 as manager of the Charlotte Repair and Service Center.

Mr. Cashion was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the J.C. Grose Sunday School Class in Cornelius. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, East Gate Masonic Lodge No. 692, Scottish Rite, Oasis Shrine Temple, and American Legion Post 86.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 19600 Zion St. Cornelius, NC 28031.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Mt. Zion United Methodist church with Rev. Mike Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Raymer Funeral Home.
