Mamadou Diabate, on kora.

Mamadou Diabate, on kora.

One of the things we love about Davidson is the chance to hear music, attend lectures, and see movies or plays that pass through the Davidson College campus. On Tuesday night, kora master Mamadou Diabate played a special free concert as part of the college union’s Artist Series. Mr. Diabate and his ensemble (above) played to packed crowd in the college union 900 Room. Mr. Diabate is a member of a musical family from Mali, and plays kora, a harp-like multi-stringed instrument. His singing keeps alive the tradition of west Africa’s griots, or musical story tellers.
