Forums planned on underage drinking

Parent and community groups and school officials are planning two public forums over the next two weeks to discuss underage drinking and how to prevent it. The first is Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St. A repeat forum will be Tuesday, Sept. 30, 6:30 to 8 p.m., also at Ada Jenkins.

Representatives from various agencies will be there to provide information and answer questions, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools; the towns of Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville and Mooresville; and from Substance Abuse Prevention Services, Chemical Dependency Center, Crossroads Behavioral Health and other groups.

The forums are sponsored by the Parent Centered Prevention Committee of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Drug Free Coalition, CMS, Lake Norman Community Development Council and corporate volunteers.

Light refreshments will be served. Adults and elementary, middle and high school students are invited to participate.  Child care is available.
