Station area planning, ‘Tenor’ opening, and a flea circus

A two-day public planning workshop is scheduled this week on a proposed mixed-use development at the Metrolina Warehouse off Jackson Street and for the proposed Davidson commuter rail station master plan. Meanwhile, Davidson Community Players offers up its latest production, the comedy “Lend Me a Tenor,” beginning Thursday. The Alberti Flea Circus performs Thursday at the public library. Meanwhile, Ben & Jerry’s free movie series continues Friday with “Shrek the Third” and they’ll have a fund-raising pet party on Saturay. For details about those programs and more …

Also, local Celtic and folk musician Kate Minogue will make a farewell appearance at Summit Coffee Saturday night, 8-11, before a move to Boston. She’ll be outdoors on the Summit patio (weather-permitting) with a cast of fellow musicians, including Billy Jones, Kelley Gardner, June Benfield and Tim Helfrich.

Metrolina Warehouse / Linden cotton mill
A workshop Wednesday and Thursday will start planning for a mixed-use project on the Metrolina Warehouse site (above). Also, CATS and town officials will host a follow-up session Tuesday on plans for a commuter rail station on Jackson Street.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY, JULY 23-24, Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. - Two-day public planning workshop for a proposed mixed-use development on the 5.5-acre site of the Metrolina Warehouse, Depot and Jackson streets, downtown.  Also included, discussion of the commuter rail station master plan. THURSDAY, JULY 24, 10:30 a.m., Davidson public library branch, on the Village Green - Jim Alberti brings his Alberti Flea Circus to town, combining storytelling and performance in a program designed to get kids reading. The Alberti Flea Circus traces its roots to a family show going back to the 19th century and is one of the few national touring flea circuses. For families, elementary and preschool kids. 45 minutes. FRIDAY, JULY 25, 7 p.m., Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream parking lot, 202 S. Main St. - Ben & Jerry’s free summer movie series continues with “Shrek the Third.” Also, movie and Ben & Jerry’s trivia, name that tune contests and prizes. Ben & Jerry’s will donated 20 percent of sales during the event to support the center’s pet rescue efforts.
