Davidson Local to play locally inspired songs Sat.
A combo of local folk/bluegrass musicians called Davidson Local will perform a night of original songs about life in Davidson and the region on Saturday, July 5, 8-11 p.m. at Summit Coffee, 128 S. Main St. The group is led by John Swallow, Cameron Swallow, and John Wertheimer, who writes most of the group’s humorous and insightful music.
LISTEN: Last winter, the group put together “The DavidsonNews.net Song” in honor of the first anniversary of this website. Listen below by clicking play.

LISTEN: Here’s another song by Mr. Wertheimer, entitled “Waitin’ for the Light Rail.”
(”Waitin’ for the Light Rail,” MP3 format, 3 min. 8 sec.)
Mr. Wertheimer is a professor of history at Davidson College who plays bass, guitar and other instruments. In recent years, he’s been composing songs about modern life in and around Davidson.
Mr. Wertheimer’s colleagues include Ms. Swallow, a musician who also teaches at Davidson IB Middle School, and Mr. Swallow, the Kimbrough professor of Mathematics at Davidson. Mr. Wertheimer and Ms. Swallow also play together in the five-piece group Davidson Express.
As Mr. Wertheimer told friends in an email this week: “If you plan to be in town this weekend, and if you like hearing mathematicians and historians sing, feel free to attend. Say that you are with Davidson College and they will let you in free. Do not say that you are with Davidson College and they will also let you in free.”
