In the news: State plans I-77 environmental study

For years, state and local officials have been discussing and debating the need to widen I-77 between Huntersville and Statesville. Now, The Charlotte Observer reports, the state is inching toward a solution. An environmental analysis of the project, including the causeways north and south of Exit 30, could begin in January, the newspaper reports. Money to buy land for the widening would be available in 5 years under the state’s long-term Transportation Improvement Plan, but there’s still no money for construction of the $525 million project. Read Erica Beshears’ article “State takes first steps toward I-77 widening” in the Thursday, May 29, Neighbors of Lake Norman.
