Alva Louise Howard Hampton, 89, of Walnut Street passed away March 29, 2008. Mrs. Hampton, the widow of George S. Hampton, was a former Davidson College employee and a longtime Davidson United Methodist Church member. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the church, 233 S. ALVA LOUISE HOWARD HAMPTON

Alva Louise Howard Hampton of Davidson, N.C., age 89, widow of George S. Hampton, passed away on March 29, 2008. She was born on August 24, 1918, in Lincoln County to Charles and Mary Primm Howard.

She was retired from Burlington Industries and Davidson College. She was a longtime member of Davidson United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Howard Spencer Hampton, and seven sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Alice H. Haines and husband C.G. of Pamplico, SC; Elizabeth H. Lawson and husband Ron of Winston-Salem, NC; and Margaret Hampton of the home; seven grandchildren, C.G. Haines, III, Beth Haines, and Laura Walkup of Pamplico, SC; David Haines of Lake City, SC, Greg Haines of Casselberry, FL; Chris Lawson of Pfafftown, NC and Paige Fine of Lexington, NC. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 1:30 PM at Davidson United Methodist Church in Davidson, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Mimosa Cemetery.
