The scoop on The Game

davidson-eight-ku.jpgCan you believe all the “Go Cats” signs around town?  Could there be, in the entire universe, a town with more team spirit than Davidson?  It is our humble, unbiased opinion here at DavidsonNews.net that there could not.

Here’s what you need to know about the game tonight:

bye-bye-birdies.JPGWho: Davidson Wildcats, the bracket busters, America’s favorite underdogs, the Cinderellas from the South, versus some team from Kansas.

What: The Midwest championship for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, better known as the Elite 8.  Davidson, which entered the tourney as a No. 10 seed, is now the only sub-No. 2 seed still standing.

When: Game time is 5:05 p.m.

Where:  The game will be played in Detroit.  In Davidson, you can enjoy festive crowds and TV screens tuned to CBS at the college union, the Brickhouse Tavern and at Fuel Pizza.  Wear black and red for the Wildcats and avoid royal blue, as that’s the color for the other guys.  Be sure to cheer extra loud when Stephen Curry makes his first three-pointer, as that that will be his 159th this season and so will break the NCAA single-season three-point record set by Darrin Fitzgerald of Butler University in 1987.

How: Well, folks, it turns out that this team from Kansas is highly ranked.  Oddsmakers are currently calling the Jayhawks nine to 10 point favorites over the Wildcats.  However, the highly respected but previously unheard of DNN (that’s DavidsonNew.net) oddsboard, after careful consultation, gives an edge to…you guessed it!  Curry and Company!

Why?  Why not?

Go Cats!  And if you need to know more about the game, check the college website’s tourney central link for radio station coverage, player roster and bios for both teams and much more.  See, also, “Curry’s a hit for Prime Time” in today’s Charlotte Observer.
