A suspect in back-to-back bank robberies last week in Davidson and Mooresville turned himself in to the Iredell County Sheriff’s office Saturday night, Davidson police said Monday. Davidson College Presbyterian Church has named the Rev. Elizabeth (Lib) McGregor Simmons as pastor after a yearlong national search. The Rev. Critics and audiences found a lot to like about this weekend’s production of “Scapin” at Davidson College. Directed by Scott Ripley, a visiting theater professor at the college, the show was a musical adaptation of a Moliere play.

A man who held up the BB&T branch on Main Street in Davidson may have also robbed a First Citizens branch in Mooresville a short time later. The man had still not been caught as of early this afternoon.

Doodle Brown
Smiley “Doodle” Walter Brown Sr., 70, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at home on East Rocky River Road, where he lived with wife Betty Brackett Brown. He was a pilot and a retiree from Duke Power. Funeral services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shearers Presbyterian Church.
