Town Board work session Tuesday

(updated Monday, Feb. 25, 2008) Presentations about several development projects, budget planning for the fire and planning departments, a vote on borrowing for a new fire truck, and a presentation about the proposed townwide comprehensive plan are on the agenda for the Town Board’s monthly work session Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m.

The board will hear about two proposed low-impact subdivisions: Maple Grove and Oaks at Davidson.

Maple Grove is a proposed six-home development planned off Shearer Road, just south of Fisher Farm. A public planning workshop on the proposal was held on Dec. 3.

Oaks at Davidson, proposed by John Robbins, would include four homes off Mayes Road, backing up to the Woodlands development. Mr. Robbins, who also developed Woodlands, also is proposing to add a fifth new home, within the Woodlands. This would allow for an area of natural habitat to be preserved between the Oaks and Woodlands, Planning Director Kris Krider said Friday.

Barra Row, a proposed office building off Beaty Street, also will be the subject of an informational presentation Tuesday. That project has recently been redesigned so it meets the town ordinance, so it will not require additional approvals by the Town Board, Mr. Krider said.

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

Tuesday’s meeting also will include a presentation on the planning department’s proposal to hire a consultant to help develop a new townwide comprehensive master plan.

A subcommittee of the Planning Board has been studying both the department and the proposal for a comprehensive master plan for the past six months. Mr. Krider said Friday he plans to ask for $100,000 over the next two years to pay for a consultant to assist with the planning.

On Monday, Feb. 25, the town updated the agenda to add a vote on a bank loan for a new fire truck. The proposal calls for borrowing $540,000 from BB&T to buy a new Pierce Quantum Pumper.

The full work session agenda is on the town website.
