Man arrested in June home invasion
Police arrested a 37-year-old man this morning on charges related to a June 24 home invasion and gunfire on Mock Road on the West Side.
Davidson and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Michael Anthony Cherry and took him to Mecklenburg County jail.
Nobody was hurt in the June incident, which included a foot chase onto Sloan Street. A second man also was involved, but police have been unable to identify him.
The incident led to community meetings with residents and police and an “empowerment walk.”
Mr. Cherry faces several charges related to the invasion, the chase and shots fired. Details are in the press release issued by the town of Davidson.
PRESS RELEASE
(Town of Davidson press release) On Friday morning, Nov. 30, 2007, the Davidson Police Department and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department arrested Michael Anthony Cherry (date of birth 10/15/70) in conjunction with the June 24, 2007 home invasion on Mock Road in Davidson.
Mr. Cherry has been charged with:
- two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon
- one count of first degree burglary
- four counts of second degree kidnapping
- one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling
- one count of shooting within the town limits of Davidson
- two counts of assault with a deadly weapon
- one count of damage to property
Mr. Cherry was transported to the county jail this morning.
